Scenic Bike Ride to Varandha Ghat and Shivthar Ghal
11:30:00
After a long time it was time to execute the most awaiting monsoon ride to Varandha Ghat. The plan was to visit the beautiful waterfalls of Varandha Ghat and Shivthar Ghal for the scenic waterfall view.
So one fine Sunday morning of 31st July 2016, we started for a day monsoon ride to Varandha Ghat from Pune. There are lots of waterfalls in Varandha, few of them are easily accessible from road which make this place a must visit place in the monsoon season.
We started the ride from Pune (Kondhwa Khurd), travel toward Pune-Bangalore highway (NH-4) near Katraj ghat and towards the Kapurhol crossing. Just 10 mins ahead, a small road goes to the right. This is the road to Bhor Village. This beautiful narrow road which goes towards Bhor Ghat and then later climbs into Varandha Ghat. If you cross the Varandha ghat and get down on the other side of the valley, you will touch NH-17 (Goa Highway).
First stop at the base of Nera Deoghar Dam for few photos.
Varandha Ghat is the must visit place of Maharashtra in Monsoon and the most beautiful place. There is spot in the middle of the ghat which takes U turn and cut the hill is the scenic spot. And due to mist cloud and scenic valley, this place is best for landscape photography.
Some point to make a note while visiting Varandha Ghat/Shivthar Ghal:
From Varandha Ghat, we started for our next destination “Shivthar Ghal”. Just after crossing the narrow steep turn we took a right turn and join the narrow road for Shivthar. This road is in very bad condition and it almost like driving on the stones and potholes. But we always enjoy the road on the bike trip either if it good or bad. Finally in few minutes ascent we reached a small village of Shivthar.
Shivthar Ghal at the base of the Sahyadri, is an important place for the Hindus in Maharashtra. It has a cave where Samarth Ramdas, a famous guru of the region stayed for 22 years and wrote his book “Dasbodh”, It is the place where Chatrapati Shivaji’s first meeting with Samarath Ramdas took place. This place is the best place because of the silent beauty, thick forest, waterfalls and streams. It has a huge waterfall next to the temple.
This place is easily accessible from city like Pune, Mumbai, Satara etc.
After spending few mins at Shivthar Ghal we left back to pune and managed to reach Pune around 7:30 PM.

- There is no network coverage for most of the distance on the Ghat. Better to keep the Google map from Bhor to Varandha ghat/Shivthar Ghal as offline map in your cell.
- The road is narrow so keep good distance and drive carefully at the edge.
- Bhor is the near civilization for food and vehicle repair.
