Chor Gumbad, Gulbarga - A Tomb with four miniature tombs on the rooftop
13:04:00
Chor Gumbad - The lone tomb which is built on the west of the Gulbarga fort on the top hill. The tomb has some finest stucco on its ceilings and the jalis. Chor Gumbad does not house a grave, but is perhaps a victory monument.

The unique and beautifully set piece of architecture dome suggests it may have been constructed by Ahmad Shah to honor his victory over his brother Firuz Shah. The tomb has an entrance to the east, facing the Gulbarga fort. The ceiling of the dome is decorated with a band of stucco scrolls, from which emerge large leaf shaped tree design filled with scrolls. There are steps that lead to an upper corridor, evidently meant for ladies of the Bahmani court. On the rooftop there are small tombs on the four corners with domes and small corner minarets. |
