Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace is a unique palace entirely
built using teak wood and is an example of the Indo-Islamic architecture. The Islamic

pillars are notable.

We visited this place on our summer weekend trip to
Bangalore from Pune along with other attractive places like BanerghattaBiological Park, Butterfly Park, Cubbon Park (Sri Chamarajendra Park) and Lalbaugh Botanical Garden. This is our first trip with 7 month old son Maqbool and it
was amazing weekend trip to Bangalore.

A typical palace will have rich marbles, carvings and filled
with luxury. But, this is an unusual palace made up entirely of teak wood and
stands adorned with pillars, arches and balconies. The walls were embellished
with beautiful floral themes, which added to the beauty and artistic taste to
the palace.

Backside of the Palace |
Tipu Sultan's summer palace is located close to the busy
K.R. Market in the center of Bangalore city. The palace is actually quite small
compared to other palaces in South India and is built within the walls of the
Bangalore Fort. Despite its location in extremely busy part of the city, Tipu
Sultan’s Summer Palace is peaceful and quiet. We visited on a weekday afternoon and there were only a handful of foreign and local
tourists. We spend around 2 hours of a peaceful time in the palace on the
summer day and later went to explore other places of Bangalore city.

The ruler used to conduct his durbar from the upper floor, first
floor has four smaller rooms called Zenana Quarters. A balcony on each side of
the central hall was used for the Sultan to address his people.
The interior of the palace was constructed with Teak wood with ornate patterns painted on the walls and wood carving on the many pillars.

Beside the palace, we find Kote Ventakaramana temple which
was built by Chikkadevaraya Wodeyar in 16th century. This also shows
Tipu Sultan’s respect towards all religions in his kingdom. The temple was
also enclosed with fort hence the name Kote which means adorned by the Fort.
