Lalbagh Garden are also known as the Lalbagh Botanical Garden. There are lots of places or star attractions to see here, mainly the Glass House, Tree Fossil, the Kempe Gowda Tower, the Rock, the Floral Clock, the Statue Garden, the Lotus Pond, the Lalbagh Pond and the Island. It is a must visit place on a trip to Bangalore and we visited this place on our third day destination of our weekend trip to Bangalore.

As per historical records, the Lalbagh Garden was set up in 1760 by Hyder Ali, a former royal ruler of Mysore. It was then developed by his son Tipu Sultan and consequently the British rulers. It was given the status of a Government Botanical Garden in 1856.The garden is designed in Mughal style. The lush garden is meant for horticulture studies and for maintenance of plant species which is about 1,854 and abundance of red roses. It is a beautiful public place for healthy recreation during weekends or vacations and liked by tourists as well as locals of all age groups.

Tree fossil is a collection from the Thoruvakkaru National Forest, South Arcot in Tamil Nadu. It is supposed to be 20 million years old. This well-preserved tree fossil in Lalbagh usually gets a casual look by visitors more focused on the Glass House and the gardens.

  • It is easy to locate the Lalbagh Botanical Garden as it is a well-known landmark of Bengaluru.
  • It is just 4 km from the State Legislature, the Vidhana Soudha, in the Jayanagar residential area.
  • You can take any of the city buses that head to Jayanagar. The garden is accessible through four gates.
  • Opening and closing time of the garden is from 6 am to 7 pm daily.
  • Entrance fee for the garden is Rs. 10 only. You can happily spend 3-4 hours of your tour here.
