Winter Road Trip to Malvan Konkan Coast

Malvan is a town on the Konkan coast in Sindhudurg District, Maharashtra. It is popularly known for Sindhudurg Fort, Sea Food and Alphonso Mangoes. Malvan is considered as heaven for all the sea food lovers. Malvan is around 390 Km away from Pune city.
It was the suddenly plan with office colleagues on the weekend of 3rd & 4th January 2014. We had the plan to leave in night so started journey at 2.30 AM from Dange Chowk and headed towards Kolhapur. It was chilled night ride in a car and two bikes. Myself, Purvez, Ravi & Shubham in car and Roshan, Prathik, Akash and Ganesh join us on bikes. It was the pleasant ride with all of them.
How to reach Malvan from Pune:
Best way to reach Malvan from Pune is National Highway 4 - Kolhapur - Take either Radhanagar forest road or Gaganbawada Ghat - Vaibhavwadi - Kankavli - NH 17 -Malvan. We took Gaganbawada Ghat road as we want to enjoy the scenery and ghat ride. Both Radhanagar-Phonda Ghat and Gaganbawada Ghat have same distance and equal road conditions.
As per the local people suggestion we found the best stay near Malvan jetty on Chiwla beach, which is the safer and scenic beach in Malvan. There are lots of option of Homestay in front of the beach and at affordable price.
After we all settle down we headed towards Rock Garden in Malvan. This Garden is so named because it is close to rocky shore of Arabian Sea. We spend more time on the rocky patch than in the garden and enjoy the beautiful sunset. Rock Garden is a good place to spend evening just to view waves hitting on the rocky patches and it is one the amazing Sunset point.

Chivla Beach or Chiwla beach is a favourite destination for evening leisurely walk of local public. It has a long stretch of around 1 Kms with clean sands between Government rest house on left and rocky mountain on the right.

Chivla Beach is the best place for someone looking for isolated, peaceful and "almost your own" private beach, where one can relax on the hammock outside your room, watching local kids playing cricket match on the shore, hardworking fishermen busy sorting their daily catch and watching tiny boats taking on the sea.

We all wanted to have lunch in Malvan but due to cold, bad condition of appox 50 Km between Kolhapur and Ganganbawda Ghat we were not able to make it and reached Malvan Jetty scuba driving and snorkelling around 3.30 PM. We had the main plan for scuba drive but it failed for the day due to low tide.

Finally the 2 day trips return journey started and we head back to home around 1 PM and reached home by 2 AM. It was the scenic, adventure and memorable trip on the konkan coast and will sure revisit it soon to capture place like Tarkarli, Devbag and many more which were missed this time due to lack of time.
